Bluebells on your doorstep
It’s bluebell season and over the last few days I’ve been on a three counties quest to bring you the best ‘Greenspace on your doorstep’ bluebell walks! Here are just a few of my favourites…
I was with the Heathland Hounds this week for one of our regular Wednesday Walkies. We enjoyed the lovely display, just starting, at Rowhill Nature Reserve near Aldershot on the Surrey / Hampshire border…
At Naishes Wood, near Church Crookham in Hampshire, the woods are full of all sorts of wildflowers. The best bluebell display is in the woodland in the south west corner, named Ridding’s Copse on some maps…
The woods at Ambarrow Court near Sandhurst in Berkshire are looking really lovely, with all sorts of wildflowers, not just bluebells…
At Peacock Meadows near Bracknell in Berkshire, you’ll find a great route through Big Wood, accessed from the North Meadow. This was my absolute favourite. Just lovely!…
If you don’t mind a climb, the wooded slopes of the top corner of St. Ann’s Hill, near Chertsey in Surrey are a sea of blue…
And last, but certainly not least, one of the best displays can be found at Chantry Wood near Guildford in Surrey. I always find it hard to do bluebells justice with a photograph, but the woodlands on the south-facing slopes are just amazing…
I hope you’re able to get out and about to enjoy the bluebells this weekend. For more ideas for country walks, take a look at our ‘Greenspace on your doorstep’ directory.
